Reseume generation tool

A new minds inhouse project

Introduction

I was leading the UX and design work of a new resume generator tool for New Minds. The consultant company New Minds was in need of a new tool for handling and creating resumes for their potential consultants. This would be a part of their new internal system that also includes tools like time reporting and communication. The project was conducted entirely remote since it was ongoing during the corona pandemic.

The challenge

The most important factor for the new tool was that it had to be easy to use for the consultant managers. They needed to be able to adapt the resumes depending on the company’s requirements and the different roles they where looking for. It was also important that both consultant managers and potential consultants could edit the resume and that the text and design in the resumes would be as standardized as possible.

Project goals

Usability Scalability Consistency and branding
Making the interface intuative and
easy to use for both consultants and managers
Designing the interface for both
MVP development and future upscaling
Keeping the design in line with
the rest of the internal system and the brand

Scope of work

I was responsible for doing user research, creating flows, prototyping, user-testing and UI design. I worked closely with the product owner, developers and with close communication with the founder of the company and the consultant managers. One important part of my role was to distinguish the needs from the wishes.

Scalability

One of the goals of my UX work was to create a design that would work both as a MVP and that could be scaled up in the future. This was important since the company, at the time, did not have the resources to scale the project for their future vision. To manage this I created some of the design in two parts. One for the MVP and one with future ideas. I also created a design that was built on simple interaction patterns that could be re-used in many different ways.

Research

To gather information about the old system they had used before and wishes they had for the new system, we conducted an interview with some of the consultant managers and also participated in a focus group about it. I also researched different solutions of other companies and looked for design inspiration.

Prototyping and testing

I started by sketching ideas on paper and then used Figma to create flows and prototypes. I also conducted usability tests and design reviews with potential users throughout the different stages of the project.
